After earning his PhD and MSc from Carnegie Mellon University and completing postdoctoral research at MIT, where he developed groundbreaking market mechanisms for prosumer engagement in electricity ecosystems, he has established himself as a leading figure in sustainable energy systems. His research portfolio spans from short-term control and operation modeling to long-term decision-making frameworks for planning purposes, with particular focus on integrating renewable energy into electricity grids. Through his involvement in numerous Dutch national and European projects, he continues to advance the development of smart controllers for renewable resources and innovative market mechanisms, while his work on infrastructure cyber-physical systems has garnered significant attention with over 600 citations across 56 research publications. His expertise in stochastic simulation for distributed renewable energy systems integration and battery energy storage systems positions him at the forefront of sustainable energy transition efforts, contributing to the advancement of smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration strategies.

Yashar Ghiassi-Farrokhfal brings extensive expertise in energy systems and sustainability to his role as Associate Professor at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where he also serves as academic director of smart energy and sustainability at the Erasmus Center for Data Analytics (ECDA) and scientific lead at the Centre of Energy System Intelligence (CESI). After earning his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, he has established himself as a leading researcher in energy transition and sustainable systems, with publications in prestigious journals across multiple disciplines including Energy Economics, Data Analytics, and Computer Science. His research portfolio spans energy economics, storage systems, renewable energy integration, and market mechanisms, with particular focus on microgrids, electric vehicles, and hydrogen implementation. At RSM, he contributes to both academic and practical knowledge through teaching courses like "Designing Business Applications" and developing the Coursera course "Driving business towards the Sustainable Development Goals."
