Yashar Ghiassi

Yashar Ghiassi-Farrokhfal brings extensive expertise in energy systems and sustainability to his role as Associate Professor at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where he also serves as academic director of smart energy and sustainability at the Erasmus Center for Data Analytics (ECDA) and scientific lead at the Centre of Energy System Intelligence (CESI). After earning his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, he has established himself as a leading researcher in energy transition and sustainable systems, with publications in prestigious journals across multiple disciplines including Energy Economics, Data Analytics, and Computer Science. His research portfolio spans energy economics, storage systems, renewable energy integration, and market mechanisms, with particular focus on microgrids, electric vehicles, and hydrogen implementation. At RSM, he contributes to both academic and practical knowledge through teaching courses like "Designing Business Applications" and developing the Coursera course "Driving business towards the Sustainable Development Goals." His impact extends beyond academia through successful grant acquisitions for European and Dutch projects, including FlexSUS for municipal heat transition and MAGPIE for energy transition in ports, while his multi-disciplinary approach continues to advance understanding of energy transitions, sector coupling, and sustainable energy systems development.
