Delft University of TechnologyAyman Abdelwahed currently serves as a PhD candidate at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where he combines his background in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Physics from Alexandria University with advanced data science and operations research to optimize smart city operations. His research focuses on developing innovative solutions for urban transportation and energy systems, with particular emphasis on electrifying public transit networks. His work has gained significant recognition, including being named runner-up for the INFORMS Wagner Prize for Excellence in Advanced Analytics and Operations Research in 2020 for his contributions to Rotterdam's electric bus network implementation. Working in collaboration with Rotterdam's public transport operator RET, he has developed real-time decision support systems for electric bus networks that optimize charging schedules while maximizing renewable energy usage, leading to the successful launch of Rotterdam's first electric transit bus network in 2020.
