Senior Research and Teaching Associate at the University of Geneva
Dr. Roberta Ruggiero holds an MA in Law, an MA in Human Rights and Democratisation, and a Ph.D. focused on the Promotion and Protection of Children’s Rights. She is a Senior Research and Teaching Associate at the University of Geneva’s Centre for Children's Rights Studies, where she also serves as the scientific coordinator for the Master of Advanced Studies in Children's Rights and the Summer School ‘Children at the Heart of Human Rights’. Previously, she was the scientific coordinator of the European Network of National Observatories on Childhood (ChildONEurope) at the Istituto degli Innocenti from 2008 to 2013, and she has lectured at the University of Padua and served as an external professor on children’s rights at the University of Molise in Italy. Dr. Ruggiero has also conducted research at the IOM Europe Office and UNICEF-Innocenti Research Office. Her research interests include children's rights within the EU legal framework, independent national human rights institutions for children, and comparative childhood governmental policies, contributing significantly to the understanding and implementation of children's rights across various contexts.
Professor of Psychology and Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights Studies at the University of Geneva
Professor Philip D. Jaffé is a Full Professor of Psychology and the Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights Studies (CIDE) at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. His research focuses on a rights-based approach to monitoring institutions where children are deprived of liberty, children's participation in traditional justice systems, and understanding children's perspectives regarding their journeys to and from school. His work also addresses critical issues such as the prevalence of child sexual abuse, school bullying, children's perceptions of their rights, and child and youth policy. A licensed psychotherapist and court-appointed expert in legal cases involving children, Professor Jaffé co-founded the Swiss Society of Legal Psychology in 1994, serving as its first president for a decade. He contributed to the Council of Europe's drafting of the 2010 Guidelines on Child-Friendly Justice and currently serves on the board of Pro Juventute, Switzerland's leading organization dedicated to advocating for children and young people. His extensive experience in both academic research and practical applications underscores his commitment to advancing children's rights and well-being.
