Distinguished Mathematician and Former President of Koç University
Attila Aşkar serves as a Professor of Mathematics at Koç University, where he previously held key leadership positions including President (2001-2009), Provost (1998-2001), and founding Dean of Arts and Sciences (1993-1998). His academic journey includes an MSc from Istanbul Technical University (1966) and a Ph.D. from Princeton University (1969), followed by postdoctoral research at Brown University. His distinguished career spans prestigious institutions including Boğaziçi University, Paris University VI, Max-Planck Institute in Göttingen, and the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology in Stockholm. His research contributions encompass differential equations, molecular dynamics, quantum mechanics, elasticity theory, and fluid mechanics, with over 95 ISI-indexed publications and two influential books. His work earned him multiple prestigious awards including the TÜBİTAK Science Award, TÜBİTAK Encouragement Award, and the Ministry of Culture Information Age Award. Distinguished Nursing Scholar and Women's Health Expert
Professor Aygül Akyüz serves as a Professor and Deputy Director at Koç University School of Nursing, bringing extensive expertise in women's health and nursing education. Her academic credentials include degrees from GATA (Gülhane Military Medical Academy), culminating in a Ph.D. in Women's Health and Diseases Nursing (2001). Her research portfolio includes over 40 international publications, with 36 articles in internationally indexed journals and contributions to nine national books. Her most cited works include groundbreaking research on gynecologic cancer experiences and cervical cancer screening. As an educator, she has supervised 12 graduate students (5 Master's and 7 Doctoral theses) and continues to mentor three Master's students.
