Leading Expert in Gender Equality and Leadership Studies
Dr. Terrance Fitzsimmons is an Associate Professor in Leadership at the University of Queensland Business School and serves as the Managing Director of the Australian Gender Equality Council (AGEC). His groundbreaking research focuses on gender equality in leadership, with his PhD examining the differing pathways to CEO roles for men and women. As a Chartered Accountant with over 35 years of practice, he brings a unique perspective to leadership studies. His significant contributions include major research reports such as 'Filling the Pool' examining gender inequality in Western Australia, 'Hands Up for Gender Equality' with the Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia, and 'Towards Board Gender Parity' with the Australian Institute of Company Directors. His work has been instrumental in understanding how Australia has become one of only three countries to achieve over 30% women representation on its top 200 listed public company boards. Fitzsimmons makes extensive use of Pierre Bourdieu's framework in examining persistent intergenerational societal disparity, and his expertise has led him to work with many of Australia's largest firms on their diversity programs. He regularly speaks both domestically and internationally on gender equality and inclusion, while also serving on various boards including Women and Leadership Australia and the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology
