Education Specialist Leading Coral Reef Conservation Training

The University of QueenslandLoren Recchi-Bannah is a dedicated education specialist at The University of Queensland, where she serves as Project Coordinator for the Coral Reef Rescue Initiative (CRRI). Following her tenure as a researcher at the Institute for Social Science Research and completion of her Master of Development Practice, she has established herself as an expert in developing accessible online educational content. In her current role, she works alongside Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg and Erin Lord-Lynch to coordinate and develop comprehensive learning programs, including the successful CRRI101x Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) launched in October 2023. This course has attracted over 500 learners from 80 countries, particularly focusing on six target countries: Fiji, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, Tanzania, and Madagascar. Her work involves creating educational content that combines biology, ecology, and social sciences to provide accessible introductions to coral reef ecosystem conservation. Through the CRRI Knowledge Hub, she helps foster collaboration between government organizations, NGOs, academic institutions, and coastal communities, ensuring that educational initiatives contribute to long-term sustainable outcomes in coral reef preservation.
