The University of QueenslandGilda Carvalho is a Senior Lecturer and Joint Course Coordinator at the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Queensland, Australia. She also coordinates the Master of Engineering in Urban Water program. With a background as a chemical engineer and a PhD in Biotechnology from the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, Carvalho has established herself as an expert in environmental bioengineering, focusing on water and wastewater treatment technologies. Her research interests include the removal of nutrients and emerging pollutants, as well as biologically-mediated resource recovery processes. As a passionate educator, she has extensive experience in developing and delivering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering. Carvalho has played a key role in developing a unique suite of postgraduate programs in Urban Water Engineering, characterized by a comprehensive and integrative vision of the urban water cycle and strong links with industry. Her work bridges the gap between academic research and practical applications in water engineering, contributing significantly to the field of sustainable urban water management.
