Charmaine Williams is a registered social worker and Associate Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, where she also serves as Associate Dean Academic. With over 20 years of experience in hospital and community-based mental health, Dr. Williams teaches courses on mental health, social justice, and diversity. Her research focuses on the mental health experiences of marginalized populations, including those diagnosed with schizophrenia, and access to care for lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women. She also examines the human rights implications of LGBT-based discrimination on mental health.
