The University of QueenslandDr. Carl Sherwood serves as Senior Lecturer and Director of Education in the School of Economics at The University of Queensland, where he combines engineering expertise with innovative teaching methodologies. After completing his Bachelor of Engineering, MBA, and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from UQ, followed by 15 years as a professional engineer, he has established himself as a pioneering voice in economics education. His work focuses on developing storytelling-based approaches to teaching statistics and economics, demonstrated through his groundbreaking research on contextual learning in large introductory courses. Through his development of blended learning activities and student-centered teaching methods, he has earned numerous accolades including an Australian Award for Teaching Excellence and a UQ Teaching Excellence Award. His expertise particularly shines in making complex statistical concepts accessible through innovative pedagogical approaches, demonstrated through his PhD research on students' contextual storytelling in statistics education. Currently leading educational initiatives at UQ's School of Economics while maintaining active research in learning innovation, he has authored influential works including "Business Analytics and Statistics" and numerous papers on student learning outcomes.
