A Leading Expert in Entrepreneurship and Business Failure Research
Anna Jenkins serves as a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at The University of Queensland's Business School, where she has established herself as a prominent researcher in entrepreneurial processes and business failure. After completing her PhD from Jönköping International Business School and Bachelor of Economics (honours) from the University of Adelaide, she has made significant contributions to understanding entrepreneurial failure and startup development. Her research focuses on three main areas: the processes involved in creating high-impact startups, the development of startup ecosystems, and the impact of firm failure on small business owners' well-being. Jenkins currently leads an ARC Discovery grant project examining startup trajectories over four years and conducts longitudinal ethnographic studies on startup ecosystem emergence. Her most cited work includes groundbreaking research on individual responses to firm failure and entrepreneurial failure conceptualization, published in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing and International Small Business Journal. Beyond her research, she holds a UQ Teaching Innovation Grant for developing interdisciplinary experiential learning approaches to foster innovative and entrepreneurial mindsets. Her expertise spans various research methodologies, from large-scale longitudinal quantitative studies to narrative interviews with failed business owners, and her work has been recognized through prestigious research grants from organizations including The Swedish Retail and Wholesale Development Council and Swedbank.
