Leading Expert in Climate Change Adaptation and Landscape Governance
Ilse Hennemann serves as Advisor Climate Change & Environmental Governance at Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (WCDI), where she specializes in integrated landscape approaches and climate change adaptation. After completing her training as a human geographer and environmental sociologist, she has established herself as a key expert in environmental governance and multi-stakeholder processes. Her work focuses on developing resilient landscapes through participatory approaches and capacity building, particularly in Africa and Asia. As coordinator of the Landscape Learning Journey project in the Horn of Africa, she has successfully implemented innovative learning approaches that empower communities to address climate challenges through landscape-based solutions. Through her teaching of MOOCs including "Climate Action in Biodiverse Landscapes" and "Landscape Governance: Collaborating Across Sectors and Scales," she helps professionals understand complex landscape dynamics and governance processes. Her expertise particularly shines in facilitating multi-stakeholder processes and developing landscape governance frameworks, demonstrated through her work training landscape facilitators across six countries in the Horn of Africa. As co-author of guides on blended learning for landscape professionals, she continues to advance capacity development approaches while contributing to more resilient and sustainable landscapes worldwide.
