Sarah E. Light is an Associate Professor of Legal Studies and Business Ethics at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the intersection of environmental law, corporate sustainability, and business innovation. Professor Light has explored various topics, including the regulatory implications of transportation platforms like Uber and Lyft, the role of private carbon fees in corporate governance, and the U.S. military's influence on technological innovation aimed at reducing fossil fuel consumption. Her scholarly work has been published in prestigious journals such as the Stanford Law Review, Columbia Law Review, and Duke Law Journal.In recognition of her teaching excellence, Professor Light has received multiple awards, including the Wharton Teaching Excellence Awards in 2018 and 2019, as well as an Excellence in Teaching Award in the MBA Program in 2017. She is known for her engaging courses on topics such as "ESG and Climate Change," where she educates students on critical issues related to environmental governance and corporate responsibility.Before joining Wharton, Professor Light served for ten years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where she was Chief of the Environmental Protection Unit. She holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, an M.Phil. in Politics from Oxford University (where she was a Rhodes Scholar), and a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University. Through her research and teaching, Sarah Light continues to shape the discourse around environmental law and business ethics, preparing students to navigate complex challenges in sustainability and corporate governance.
