Dr. KK Tang serves as Professor of Economics at the University of Queensland, where he combines expertise in development economics with innovative research in health and inequality studies. After completing his BSc from the University of Hong Kong and PhD from the Australian National University, followed by experience as a financial journalist and economic consultant, he has established himself as an influential researcher in health economics and inequality studies. His work spans multiple areas including mental health, income insecurity, and inequality of opportunity, demonstrated through numerous publications in leading journals like Social Science & Medicine and Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization. Through his teaching of macroeconomics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he has earned multiple teaching awards while maintaining Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy since 2018. His expertise particularly shines in analyzing economic insecurity and health outcomes, demonstrated through his research on mental health implications of economic uncertainty and innovative measures of development. Currently leading research initiatives at UQ while serving as a research associate at the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis, he continues to advance understanding of health economics while maintaining active research in educational innovation. His achievements include securing multiple Australian Research Council Discovery Project grants and developing new multidimensional measures of development that incorporate technology and institutional factors.
