Duncan Maidens is a seasoned technology education professional who currently serves as the Director of Learning Products at the Raspberry Pi Foundation where he leads teams in researching creating and publishing educational content His extensive career spans over three decades beginning in 1987 as a TV Engineer and Lecturer at the British Broadcasting Corporation followed by service as a Lieutenant Instructor Officer in the Royal Navy from 1991 to 1995 His academic journey includes a BSc Hons in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Newcastle University and an MSc in Networks and Data Communications from The University of Salford He spent significant time in higher education serving as a Research Assistant and Lecturer at the University of Salford followed by roles at Staffordshire University as Senior Lecturer and LMC for Cisco Academy From 2001 to 2019 he held various positions at Birmingham City University including Senior Lecturer Manager Network Technology and Head of Center of Excellence At the Raspberry Pi Foundation he has been instrumental in developing educational initiatives including the Ada Computer Science platform which provides free high-quality computing education resources His expertise is recognized through various certifications including a 20-year service certification from Cisco and Microsoft's MTA Security Fundamentals He is particularly passionate about making computer science education accessible and relevant in the age of AI emphasizing the importance of understanding fundamental computing concepts for young learners worldwide
