Pioneering Healthcare Policy and Research

Gary Young is the Director of the Northeastern University Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Research and a Professor of Strategic Management and Healthcare Systems at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. Prior to his role at Northeastern, Dr. Young served as chairman of the Department of Health Policy and Management at Boston University School of Public Health. His extensive background includes positions as a healthcare attorney and analyst for the federal government and a national healthcare consulting firm. Dr. Young's research primarily addresses organizational, managerial, and legal challenges in healthcare service delivery, and his work has been published in prominent journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Health Affairs, and more. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he received the John D. Thompson Prize in Health Services Research from the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) in 1998 and an Investigator Award in Health Policy Research from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for his research on pay-for-performance in the U.S. healthcare system. In 2012, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to the IRS Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities, which advises IRS officials on policy and procedural matters. Dr. Young holds a law degree and a Ph.D. in Management from the State University of New York.
