Prof. Dr. Ir. Bart Smolders, a professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, is an expert in smart antenna systems. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from TU/e in 1994 and has held positions at TNO, THALES ASTRON, and NXP Semiconductors. He now leads research on integrated antenna systems for 5G/6G communications at TU/e, where he is also the dean of the Electrical Engineering department. Prof. Smolders has played a pivotal role in several large-scale research projects related to wireless communication technologies.

His professional career includes a role as Senior Systems Engineer at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK GmbH, where he worked on autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) systems with sonar payloads. Since 2016, he has served as an Assistant Professor at TU/e, focusing on millimetre-wave antenna systems and antenna integration. Dr. Johannsen is also the chairperson of the IEEE Benelux joint AP/MTT chapter.
