Pioneer in Global Housing Design and Sustainable Architecture
Dick van Gameren serves as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft since April 2019, where he has been Professor of Housing Design since 2006. After graduating cum laude from TU Delft in 1988, he established his own architecture firm before becoming a partner at Mecanoo Architecten in 2013. His distinguished career spans both academia and professional practice, with notable achievements including founding the DASH book series on housing studies in 2008 and establishing the Global Housing Study Centre at TU Delft. His architectural work has earned prestigious recognition, including the 2007 Aga Khan Award for the Dutch Embassy in Ethiopia and the Rijnlandse Architectuurprijs for the Langebrug student housing project in Leiden. In 2022, he received the edX Prize for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning for his MOOC on Global Housing Design, which addresses critical challenges in sustainable and inclusive housing development. His portfolio includes significant projects ranging from exhibition designs to urban master plans, particularly in Amsterdam's IJburg and Eastern Docklands. Through his leadership of the Global Housing research group, he continues to advance solutions for affordable housing in rapidly expanding cities across Asia and Africa, while maintaining his role as a practicing architect and educator.

Nelson Mota serves as an Associate Professor at TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, where he leads the Global Housing research group and educational program. His academic journey includes a professional degree in Architecture and an Advanced Master's in Architecture, Territory, and Memory from the University of Coimbra, followed by a PhD from TU Delft in 2014 with a dissertation exploring the intersection between vernacular practices and housing architecture. As a founding partner of comoco arquitectos, his practical work has earned recognition including the 2013 Portuguese National Prize for Architecture in Wood. His contributions to architectural education and research were recently recognized with the 2022 edX Prize for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning, shared with colleagues for their Global Housing Design course. His expertise spans housing design, architectural ethnography, and vernacular practices, reflected in his publications including "A Arquitectura do Quotidiano" (2010) and co-editorship of "Global Housing: Dwelling in Addis Ababa" (2020). Through his leadership in the Global Housing program, he focuses on developing sustainable and inclusive housing solutions, particularly addressing challenges in rapidly urbanizing regions.
