Yan Zhang has established herself as a prominent figure in medical education and nursing management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Her academic journey includes a medical degree from Shanghai Second Medical University (1987), a bachelor's in education from Shanghai University of Technology, and a doctorate in management science and engineering. Her career spans over 25 years, combining 6 years of clinical practice with extensive experience in higher education administration. She has held key leadership positions including deputy director of the Nursing Department at Ruijin Clinical Medical College and vice president of Shanghai Pharmaceutical College. Her research focuses on higher nursing education and management, leading multiple national and municipal projects. Her contributions include developing the "five changes and four reforms" teaching model for nursing education, research on clinical nurses' work performance, and critical thinking ability among medical students. She has authored over 60 research papers in national core journals and SCI publications, contributed to more than 10 national textbooks, and serves on editorial boards of several nursing journals. Her achievements have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award (2013) and two second prizes for Shanghai Teaching Achievement.
