École Polytechnique Fédérale de LausanneYves Perriard, born in Lausanne in 1965, is an Adjunct Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Integrated Actuators at EPFL. After receiving his M.Sc. in Microengineering from EPFL in 1989 and Ph.D. in 1992, he co-founded Micro-Beam SA, serving as CEO of this high-precision electric drive company. His research focuses on innovative actuator design and associated electronic devices, spanning micromotors, system design methods, control electronics, piezoelectric motors, and new magnetic materials like magnetorheological fluids. He has published over 180 papers, holds 5 patents, and co-authored two books. His excellence in teaching earned him the STI Faculty's best teacher award in 2005 and 2006. Named to the CTI commission in Bern by the Federal Council in 2013 and appointed guest professor at Zhejiang University in 2014, he has supervised more than 23 doctoral students. In 2018, he launched a new center at EPFL focusing on artificial muscles through a Werner Siemens Foundation donation
