His academic journey includes a Bachelor of Engineering from Hohai University, a Master's in Cartography & GIS from Nanjing Normal University, and a Ph.D. in Geo-Informatics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Before joining PolyU, he gained valuable experience as a postdoctoral fellow and sessional lecturer at Ryerson University in Canada, where he also managed the Urban Transportation Lab. His research portfolio spans Geographic Information Science, transportation geography, complex networks, and urban informatics, with a particular focus on leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to advance smart cities. Dr. Liu has made significant contributions to the field through his work on human mobility patterns, urban computing, and digital geography, as evidenced by his numerous highly-cited publications in prestigious journals. His teaching responsibilities encompass Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics Algorithms, Geodatabase management, and Infrastructure and Utility Management, reflecting his commitment to both research excellence and educational development in the field of urban informatics and smart city technologies
