Education and Development Expert Leading IDBx Program

Inter-American Development BankXenia Libertad Cotón Gutierrez is a distinguished education and development professional who currently heads the IDBx Program at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). With a doctorate in Social Anthropology from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a master's degree in International Relations and Cooperation with Latin America from King Juan Carlos University, she brings extensive academic and practical expertise to her role. Her career at IDB began in 2010 as a social and institutional specialist in Haiti's Water and Sanitation Division. Since 2014, she has been instrumental in leading the Knowledge Management and Learning team as a senior specialist, where she oversees the IDB's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) program that has reached over a million learners, including 12,000 from the Caribbean region. Before joining IDB, she contributed significantly to international development through her work at the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), where she managed the Regional Central American Program for Occupational Training and Labor Insertion (FOIL). Her earlier career included roles as a teacher and researcher at Spanish universities and public institutions. Under her leadership, the IDBx program has developed comprehensive courses focusing on crucial areas such as project management, development effectiveness, and climate change education, making quality education accessible across Latin America and the Caribbean.
