A Distinguished Leader in Physiotherapy Education and Research
Professor William Tsang, currently serving as Head of the Department of Physiotherapy at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (formerly The Open University of Hong Kong), brings extensive expertise in geriatric physiotherapy and rehabilitation sciences. His academic journey includes over a decade of teaching anatomy to healthcare students while pioneering innovative approaches in multimedia and peer teaching methodologies. As a clinical physiotherapist and researcher, he has made significant contributions to the understanding of postural control and preventative exercise, particularly through his extensive studies of Tai Chi, qigong, and Western exercise such as golfing. His research portfolio focuses on balance control improvement through exercise, particularly working with older adults, stroke survivors, and cancer patients. He currently serves as Chairman of the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Registration Committee and member of the Physiotherapists Board. His work has garnered significant attention in the scientific community, especially his research on falls prevention programs for individuals with mild cognitive impairment and the effects of various exercise interventions on joint proprioception and stability in elderly subjects. Beyond his academic responsibilities, he maintains active involvement in clinical practice and has developed numerous innovative teaching approaches for anatomy education across various healthcare disciplines.
