Lopez is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Health Behavior and Health Equity at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health, where he also serves as a Senior Advisor for Poverty Solutions and is a faculty associate in the Latina/o Studies Program. His research and advocacy focus on the health impacts of law enforcement practices, such as surveillance and deportation, on communities of color. Dr. Lopez teaches various public health courses, including Social Determinants of Health and Health Program Planning, both in-person and online. He is the author of the book Separated: Family and Community in the Aftermath of an Immigration Raid and has collaborated with local organizations to address health inequities through community engagement and storytelling. His work aims to highlight the intersection of immigration enforcement and public health, advocating for systemic changes to improve health outcomes in marginalized communities.
