Università di Napoli Federico IIDr. Werner J. Patzelt served as Full Professor of Comparative Government at Dresden University of Technology from 1992 to 2019, where he was instrumental in founding the Political Science Department in 1991-1992. His academic journey began at the University of Passau, where he earned his PhD in 1984 and Habilitation in 1990, focusing on ethnomethodology and parliamentary roles respectively. Currently, he serves as Research Director at MCC Brussels, a think tank dedicated to European policy questions. His expertise spans comparative politics, legislative studies, political communication, and evolutionary institutionalism, recognized through awards including the East Bavarian Cultural Award and the German Bundestag Science Award. His scholarly impact is evidenced through 15 monographs, 16 edited volumes, over 100 journal articles, and more than 260 book chapters. Beyond academia, he maintains active engagement in public discourse as editor of key German political science publications and through extensive media commentary. Since September 2022, he has led a team of 25 researchers at MCC Brussels, focusing on influencing European political debate through accessible publications and social media engagement.
