The Hong Kong Polytechnic UniversityProfessor Wenzhong Shi is a distinguished academic leader who currently serves as the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Professor in Urban Informatics and Chair Professor in Geographic Information Science and Remote Sensing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His impressive academic journey began at Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping (now Wuhan University), where he earned his B.Eng and M.Eng degrees, followed by a doctoral degree from the University of Osnabrück in Germany in 1994. As an Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences and Fellow of multiple prestigious institutions including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Academy of Social Sciences UK, Professor Shi has made significant contributions to urban informatics and smart cities research. He currently directs both the PolyU-Shenzhen Technology and Innovation Research Institute (Futian) and the Smart Cities Research Institute. His research expertise spans urban informatics, GISci, remote sensing, artificial intelligence-based object extraction, and spatial big data analytics. With over 300 research articles published in Web of Science-indexed journals and 20 authored books, Professor Shi has established himself among the world's top 2% cited researchers. His work in uncertainty modeling, spatial data quality control, and smart city applications has significantly advanced the field of geographic information science and urban informatics.
