Viola Schiaffonati is an Associate Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at Politecnico di Milano, where she is part of the Department of Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering. She earned her PhD in Philosophy of Science from Università di Genova and has expanded her academic experience with visiting positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and Stanford University's Suppes Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Science and Technology.In addition to her academic roles, Professor Schiaffonati is the Director of the CINI National Laboratory on Informatics & Society (IeS) and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Mondo Digitale, a magazine published by the Italian Association of Computing (AICA).Her research interests focus on the philosophy of artificial intelligence and robotics, epistemology, the methodology of experiments in computer engineering, autonomous robotics, and ethical issues related to intelligent and autonomous systems. She teaches courses such as Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, helping shape the discourse on the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.
