Professor Ton J. Rabelink, MD, PhD, is a distinguished professor of Medicine at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), specializing in nephrology and vascular biology. He earned his MD and PhD from Utrecht University and completed his residency and fellowships in internal medicine and nephrology before joining the faculty at Utrecht Medical School in 1993, later serving as chairman of medicine at the University Hospital Utrecht. In 2004, he transitioned to LUMC, where he became head of the Department of Nephrology and Transplantation. His research focuses on vascular biology's implications for renal function and cardiovascular disease in patients with kidney disease, leading to over 200 peer-reviewed publications. Professor Rabelink teaches the course Clinical Kidney, Pancreas and Islet Transplantation and is involved in several research initiatives, including the EU-funded STELLAR project, which explores stem cell-based therapies for kidney repair.
