Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyDr. Tom Baran is Co-founder and CEO of Lumii and Research Affiliate in MIT's RLE Digital Signal Processing Group, combining expertise in signal processing with entrepreneurial innovation. After earning his S.B. summa cum laude from Tufts University in electrical and biomedical engineering, he completed his M.S. and Ph.D. at MIT under Prof. Alan Oppenheim. His research focuses on signal processing optimization theory, light field processing, and audio applications, creating widely-used tools like the Autotalent open-source pitch correction library. His excellence in academia earned him multiple honors, including the MIT School of Engineering Graduate Student Extraordinary Teaching and Mentoring Award, the EECS Carlton E. Tucker Award for Teaching Excellence, and Best Student Paper at the 2011 IEEE DSP Workshop. As an MITx fellow and former Visiting Lecturer, he has contributed significantly to digital education, co-authoring the Discrete-Time Signal Processing course on edX. His startup Lumii won the 2015 MassChallenge Gold Award, demonstrating his ability to translate academic research into practical applications
