Dr. Tim White is a Professor of Materials Science at Nanyang Technological University, where he teaches crystallography, electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction to both undergraduate and graduate students. His research spans various fields, including mineralogy, clean energy materials, environmental remediation, nuclear waste disposal, and catalysis, utilizing synchrotron X-ray and neutron scattering methods to investigate atomic-scale symmetry. In 2006, he developed a suite of teaching modules known as On-line Micro- and Nano-characterisation Instruction (OMNI), which was later expanded into MyScope, a national curriculum for blended learning in microscopy and imaging. Dr. White also created the first comprehensive online course at NTU titled "Symmetry and Crystals," which served as the foundation for the MOOC "Beauty, Form and Function: An Exploration of Symmetry." His contributions to education and research continue to influence the field of materials science significantly.
