Harvard UniversitySusan M. Davies serves as the Story Senior Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, bringing extensive experience from the highest levels of government service. Her career includes serving as Deputy White House Counsel to President Barack Obama, where she played a pivotal role in managing the Supreme Court confirmation processes for Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. Her distinguished legal career includes prestigious clerkships with Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and then-Judge Stephen Breyer. Prior to her White House service, Davies held significant positions in government, including roles at the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, where she served as General Counsel and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, and the Department of Justice. She also worked in the Clinton White House as Special Counsel for judicial selection. Davies earned her B.S. cum laude from Yale University and her J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as comments editor for the University of Chicago Law Review. Currently, while maintaining her private practice in Washington, D.C., she teaches Legislation and Regulation at Harvard Law School, bringing her practical expertise in statutory interpretation and regulatory policy to the classroom.
