Expert in Geographic Information Systems and Crime Mapping Analysis
Steven Hick serves as GIS Director and Professor of the Practice in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of Denver, where he has led GIS education and research activities for over three decades. His academic credentials include an MA in Geography from the University of Missouri-Columbia. As Director of the GIS Certificate Program, he pioneered one of the nation's first Master of Science degrees in Geographic Information Science. His expertise spans crime mapping, transportation GIS, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Before joining DU, he worked as a Technical Consultant at UGC Consulting and served as a Cartographer with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. His early career included work as a Park Ranger with the National Park Service at various locations including Carlsbad Caverns and Gateway Arch National Park. A certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) and FAA Part 107 remote pilot, Hick teaches courses ranging from introductory GIS to advanced spatial statistics while providing technical assistance to law enforcement agencies nationwide in crime mapping and analysis
