Stephen Wong

Dr. Stephen Wong is a Lecturer in the Computer Science Department at Rice University, specializing in object-oriented programming, software engineering, and computer science pedagogy. He earned his Ph.D. in experimental solid-state physics from MIT in 1988 and has a rich background that includes positions at Bell Labs and Hughes Research Labs before transitioning to academia. As a Howard Hughes Ph.D. Fellow, Wong has published numerous papers and conducted seminars focused on design patterns and educational methodologies in computer science.Wong is known for designing innovative "objects-first" introductory courses that utilize interactivity to effectively teach fundamental concepts in computer science. His research interests encompass the application of design patterns to traditional algorithms, serious gaming systems, enterprise-class information management systems, and high-fidelity simulation systems. Through his teaching and research, Dr. Wong contributes significantly to the advancement of computer science education and the development of new technologies for online learning environments.
