Dr. Stephen T. Parente is a distinguished Professor at the University of Minnesota, holding the Minnesota Insurance Industry Chair of Health Finance in the Carlson School of Management. He also serves as the Associate Dean of MBA Programs and Director of the Medical Industry Leadership Institute. With expertise in health economics, health information technology, and health insurance, Dr. Parente has consulted for major organizations in healthcare delivery, including UnitedHealth Group and Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as federal and state governments. His extensive research focuses on consumer-directed health plans, health reform, and medical technology assessment, with over $6 million in grants supporting his studies on the impact of health information technology on productivity and costs. Dr. Parente is actively involved in health policy discussions as the Governing Chair of the Health Care Cost Institute and an Adjunct Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He has testified before Congress on health reform legislation and served as a health policy adviser during significant political campaigns. Dr. Parente earned his doctorate from Johns Hopkins University and holds both a Master of Public Health and a Master of Public Policy Analysis from the University of Rochester, reflecting his comprehensive background in public health and policy analysis.
