Delft University of TechnologySonja Paus-Buzink serves as an Assistant Professor in Human Factors at TU Delft's Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, specializing in human factors and usability evaluation for medical devices and services. Her academic journey includes an MSc in Industrial Design Engineering from TU Delft, which she completed Summa Cum Laude as Best IDE Graduate of the Year. Her Ph.D. research, co-funded by the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven, focused on improving patient safety in image-based procedures and pre-clinical surgical training using VR/AR simulation tools. Before her current academic role, she worked as Managing Human Factors Specialist at UL-Wiklund R&D, where she managed user research and product design activities while advising on medical device regulations. Her research portfolio includes significant work on surgical safety and training, particularly through her role as scientific coordinator of the Laparoscopic Surgical Skills programme for the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery. She currently teaches various BSc and MSc courses in human factors, usability, research design, and the IDE's Medisign specialization, while collaborating with clinical researchers, engineers, and cognitive psychologists from medical institutes and industry.
