Somesh Sharma

Somesh Sharma is an academic staff member with the ‘Managing and Financing Urban Infrastructure (MFUI)’ group at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and two Master's degrees in Urban Planning and Urban Management and Development. His research and teaching focus on sustainable urban transport, environmental planning and policy, green and smart infrastructure, and climate change adaptation and mitigation planning. Somesh specializes in designing decision support systems for urban management, having developed various models including the Sustainable Benefits Assessment Methodology (SBA), Travel Demand Forecasting Model, and Transport Emission Estimation Model. He is also an expert in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (RS and GIS), applying these tools in climate change impact assessments, vulnerability assessments, and sustainable development planning. Additionally, he coordinates multiple educational programs, including the MOOC "Financing Infrastructure in African Cities," contributing to capacity-building efforts in urban sustainability.
