Dr. Siddharth A. Parameswaran is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where he has been since 2014 after completing a three-year tenure as a Simons Postdoctoral Fellow in Condensed Matter Theory at UC Berkeley. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (2011) and dual degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Rochester (2006). His research focuses on theoretical studies of strongly correlated systems, exploring how interactions among electrons, atoms, ions, or molecules lead to emergent quantum phases of matter. Dr. Parameswaran is particularly interested in topological phases that are characterized by nonlocal entanglement in their quantum-mechanical wavefunctions, which could have applications in developing decoherence-free quantum computers. He actively investigates the universal properties and experimental signatures of these phases and predicts systems where they may be realized. In addition to his research, he is engaged in education and outreach, lecturing at summer schools and co-teaching a program called "Reasoning about Luck" in the UC COSMOS summer high school outreach initiative. Dr. Parameswaran teaches courses such as Emergent Phenomena in Science and Everyday Life, aiming to bridge complex scientific concepts with real-world applications.
