Shobita Parthasarathy

Shobita Parthasarathy is a Professor of Public Policy and the Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on the intersection of science, technology, and public policy, particularly in relation to social equity and justice in innovation. She has authored influential works, including Building Genetic Medicine, which informed the 2013 U.S. Supreme Court case on gene patentability, and Patent Politics, which won the Robert K. Merton Prize from the American Sociological Association.Dr. Parthasarathy's current research emphasizes inclusive innovation policies, especially in international contexts like India. She also directs the Technology Assessment Project, which recently explored the implications of large language models in artificial intelligence. In addition to her academic roles, she co-hosts The Received Wisdom, a podcast discussing issues at the intersection of technology and society.
