Sergio Lacambra is a Senior Specialist in Disaster Risk Management at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), bringing over 25 years of professional experience in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has led numerous policy reform and investment loans in countries such as Peru, Colombia, and Panama, and oversees contingent credit facilities for natural disasters in several countries. As part of his role, he coordinates the disaster risk management cluster within the IDB’s Environment, Rural Development, and Disaster Risk Management Division. He was instrumental in developing the Governance and Public Policy Index for Disaster Risk Management (iGOPP), which is applied across IDB's 26 borrowing member countries.Sergio holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of London and has extensive experience in humanitarian operations and disaster preparedness funded by the European Union. He has also worked as a national director for a private foundation in Honduras and began his career as an environmental economist in the Brazilian Amazon. On Coursera, he teaches courses such as "Decision Making and Governance of Natural Disaster Risk" and "Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Disaster Risk," aimed at equipping learners with essential skills for effective disaster risk management. Through his expertise, Sergio plays a crucial role in enhancing resilience against disasters across the region.
