Religious Studies and Early Christianity Scholar
Dr. Serge Ruzer is a distinguished scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1996. He serves as a faculty member in the Department of Comparative Religion and the Rothberg International School, while also holding the position of Senior Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Christianity. His academic expertise focuses on two main areas: the development of early Christianity within its Jewish contexts and the evolution of early Syriac Christianity, particularly examining its interactions with rabbinic Judaism and Greek Christian traditions. His research has contributed significantly to understanding the historical and cultural intersections between early Christian movements and their contemporary religious environments. Through his teaching and extensive publications, he has advanced scholarly understanding of the complex relationships between nascent Christianity and its religious and cultural surroundings.
