Dr. Sebastiaan Heidt is an associate professor at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, specializing in transplantation immunology. He obtained his PhD from Leiden University in 2010, focusing on the characterization of B cells in relation to organ transplantation. Following his doctoral studies, he worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Oxford for two years. His research interests include the various roles of B cells in organ transplantation, the formation and detection of HLA-specific memory B cells, and immune monitoring of transplant recipients. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Heidt serves as the managing director of the Eurotransplant Reference Laboratory, overseeing special programs for highly immunized transplant patients and ensuring quality control in histocompatibility and immunogenetics laboratories. He teaches the course Clinical Kidney, Pancreas and Islet Transplantation, where he shares his expertise in transplant medicine with students and healthcare professionals.
