Distinguished Islamic Economic History Scholar
Professor Saif Shaheen Al-Murikhi is a prominent academic who has made significant contributions to Islamic economic history and Gulf studies. After earning his Ph.D. in Islamic economic history from the University of Manchester in 1993, he dedicated over 26 years to teaching at Qatar University, where he taught a comprehensive range of courses including Islamic Civilization, Economic and Social History of the Islamic World, and Historiography. His research expertise focuses on the economic, social, and cultural history of the Gulf region, with particular emphasis on medieval Qatar. His scholarly achievements include multiple books and refereed articles, and he has secured several research grants from the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). A notable achievement was his leadership of a three-year project (2016-2019) studying the lexical and toponymical aspects of Beth Qatraye, which resulted in two significant publications: "Beth Qatraye A Lexical and Toponymical Survey" and "The Syriac and Arabic Lexicon of Hasan Bar Bahlul."
