Delft University of TechnologyRūta Ubarevičienė stands out as a senior researcher with dual expertise in urban geography and sociology, having earned two PhD degrees: one from Delft University of Technology in 2017 and another from the Lithuanian Social Research Centre in 2018. She currently holds positions at both the Urban Studies Research Group at TU Delft and the Institute of Sociology at the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences. Her research focuses on critical social issues including spatial inequality, social segregation, population decline, and migration patterns, particularly in the Baltic States. As co-editor of the groundbreaking book "Urban Socio-Economic Segregation and Income Inequality: A Global Perspective," she coordinated 25 research teams comprising 55 researchers worldwide to examine the relationship between income inequality and residential segregation across 24 major urban regions spanning six continents. The book reveals significant findings about global urban trends, showing that rising inequalities lead to increased socio-economic segregation worldwide, with particularly rapid growth in high-income countries. Her collaborative research extends across multiple European countries, including Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, and Estonia, contributing to our understanding of urban social dynamics and demographic changes. Her academic background includes an MSc in Geography and Landscape from Vilnius University, complementing her extensive research experience in urban and regional development.
