Distinguished Writing Education Pioneer and Communication Scholar
Dr. Roslyn Petelin serves as Honorary Associate Professor at The University of Queensland, where she designed and established the groundbreaking post-graduate Writing, Editing & Publishing Program in 2000. After teaching Literature and Film at Brisbane Kindergarten Teachers' College and holding positions at Queensland University of Technology and Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, she has built an influential career spanning academic writing, editing, and communication design. Her impact extends through extensive consulting work with organizations across Australia, the UK, USA, and Southeast Asia, while her leadership as past President of the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association earned her Honorary Life Membership. In 2014, she launched WRITE101x, a massive open online course that has attracted nearly 800,000 enrollments, demonstrating her commitment to democratizing writing education. Her scholarly contributions include editing the Australian Journal of Communication (1988-2013) and authoring multiple books, most notably "How Writing Works: A Field Guide to Effective Writing," published in its second edition by Routledge in 2022, which synthesizes her expertise in academic, professional, and digital writing while incorporating contemporary approaches to social media and online publication
