Martínez-Dávila serves as a Professor of History at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and held a prestigious CONEX Marie Curie Fellowship at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (2015-2018). After earning his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008, he has conducted research in over 40 archives and libraries, specializing in medieval and early modern Spanish history, with particular focus on religious minorities and converts, especially Sephardic Jews and conversos, and their trans-Atlantic migration to Mexico and Bolivia. His groundbreaking Global Citizen Scholars project combines educational innovation with digital humanities research, engaging international students in the study of medieval Jewish, Christian, and Muslim relations. As a bilingual Mexican-American scholar from San Antonio and first-generation academic, he has pioneered new approaches to historical research and education, developing innovative models for 21st-century cooperative education while advancing understanding of medieval Spanish cultural interactions.
