Dr. Roel Vermeulen serves as Distinguished University Professor at Utrecht University and Scientific Director of the Institute for Preventive Health (i4PH). Through his Coursera course "Unravelling Solutions for Future Food Problems," he helps students understand environmental impacts on health and disease prevention. His research focuses on environmental risk factors for non-communicable diseases, integrating epidemiology, exposure assessment, and molecular biology. As coordinator of major research initiatives including Exposome-NL, EXPANSE, and AURORA, he leads groundbreaking work in environmental health science. His achievements include authoring over 800 academic publications and serving on international committees including the World Health Organization. Recently appointed Distinguished University Professor (July 2024), he focuses on planetary and preventive health, addressing crucial questions about environmental and climate impacts on human health.
