Curtin UniversityRobyn Westgate serves as the Project Lead of the MATE Bystander program at Curtin University, bringing a powerful combination of lived experience and academic expertise to her role as a domestic violence consultant and trainer. After serving over 17 years in prison, she transformed her life through education, earning multiple qualifications including a Bachelor of Honours in Criminology focusing on Domestic and Family Violence and Domestic Violence Homicide from Murdoch University, and a Graduate Diploma in Criminology and Justice specializing in female offending and its connections to domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health. Her current work focuses on preventing gender-based violence through the MATE Bystander program, which she leads in partnership with Griffith University, primarily working with male-dominated industries such as mining and resource companies. Her unique perspective as both a survivor and scholar enables her to provide invaluable insights into domestic violence prevention and intervention strategies, while her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment supports her role in delivering workplace training programs aimed at creating active bystanders who can help reduce gender-based violence
