Roberto Guerrero Compeán is an economist at the Inter-American Development Bank, specializing in disaster risk management, climate change economics, environmental issues, poverty reduction, and program evaluation in Latin America and the Caribbean. His research focuses on understanding and mitigating the impacts of natural disasters and climate change on social welfare. Notably, his work on "Vulnerability, subsistence, and global warming in Mexico: The impact of climate shocks on social welfare" won the Banamex Economics Award in 2013. Guerrero holds degrees in economics and political science from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and the Institute of Political Studies in Paris, respectively, and has a master's in International Development and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Roberto Guerrero Compeán has a diverse background, having worked with organizations such as the Brooks World Poverty Institute at the University of Manchester, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the World Food Programme, UNESCO's Climate Change Initiative, and the United Nations Office in Geneva. He teaches courses on decision-making and governance of natural disaster risk, emphasizing the importance of effective governance in reducing human losses from disasters.
