Dr. Rick Johnston is a sanitary engineer with over 15 years of experience in water quality issues in developing countries. He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His work has taken him to various countries, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Ethiopia, where he has focused on critical challenges such as arsenic contamination in drinking water. Currently, he works with the World Health Organization as part of the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme, overseeing global access to drinking water and sanitation.Dr. Johnston teaches the course "Introduction to Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage" on Coursera, sharing his expertise in ensuring safe drinking water practices. His contributions to the field include developing innovative household water treatment solutions and extensive research aimed at improving water quality and sanitation standards worldwide.
