Architectural Design Expert and Educational Innovator

École Polytechnique Fédérale de LausanneRichard Nguyen has established himself as both a practicing architect and educator. After graduating from Paris-Malaquais School of Architecture and studying at the University of Sydney, he spent twelve years collaborating with renowned architect Dominique Perrault. During this period, he led several significant projects including the French Ministry of Defense, Paris Ile de la Cite Mission urban renewal, and the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris. His academic career began teaching alongside Archigram founder Sir Peter Cook at Paris Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture and as a Professor at the Ecole de Design Industriel in Paris. Since 2014, he has been teaching Architecture design studio at EPFL as part of the SUB Lab Underground Architecture Laboratory, where he received the Gold Polysphere Prize in 2016 for teaching excellence. He currently serves as an instructor for the Groundscape Architecture Design Lab MOOC, exploring underground urban architecture alongside Dominique Perrault and other SubLab colleagues. Through his personal research platform, Sample Studio, he investigates the relationship between space utilization and temporality in both theoretical and practical contexts
